Past work

Research and Ideation: Uncommon Sense, 2023-4

The Multicultural Leadership Initiative hired me to produce a digital handbook of best practice in applying systems thinking and strategic communications to help NGO leaders run effective, impactful campaigns and programs.

I built Uncommon Sense around five visual tools inspired by natural ecosystems, and the mnemonic S.E.N.S.E.: System, Equilibrium, Navigation, Storms and Energy for the different stages of developing, delivering and evaluating projects.

Facilitation and Training to reframe campaigns, 2014-16

As Global Humanitarian Digital Lead for Oxfam International, I was responsible for building the federation’s global campaign on ebola, and then its migration and displacement campaign.

As the ebola crisis of 2013-14 unfolded quickly, one of the major challenges was the inability to gather photography that we could use for campaigning or fundraising. I briefed a team to gather audio which we then turned into a powerful video that used these distant voices to persuade.

When Oxfam offices joined the global campaign to support displaced peoples, I coached a team in Cambodia to repurpose their “petition” to a Facebook action, as there was no history of petitioning in Cambodia. Their campaign grew from 200 to 5000-strong in days. I also coached a team in the Philippines to live stream simultaneous tarawee prayers in solidarity with those displaced by the ongoing conflict in Marawi.

Monitoring, Evaluation and Income Generation: 2010-11

When Global Witness hired me as Campaign Operations Adviser, I successfully introduced the organization’s first campaign management and evaluation toolset, built a bridge between the Fundraising and Campaigns teams, managed a Research and Development pipeline, and engaged in bid writing and reporting.

My work was instrumental in helping the organization to meet its income targets six months early in 2010.
